Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about cannabis testing

What types of cannabis products can Kaycha Labs test?

We test pretty much everything in the cannabis world! Whether you're working with flower, concentrates, extracts, edibles, beverages, topicals, tinctures, vape cartridges, pre-rolls, or hemp-derived products, we've got you covered. Our testing panels are specifically designed to handle the unique characteristics of each product type while making sure everything meets your state's requirements.

How long does it take to get test results?

Most of the time, you're looking at 3-5 business days once your sample arrives at our lab. Need results faster? We totally get it – that's why we offer expedited testing that can turn things around in 24-48 hours for those urgent situations. Keep in mind that timing can vary a bit depending on which tests you need and how busy we are, but we always do our best to get you results as quickly as possible.

What is the difference between potency testing and full panel testing?

Great question! Potency testing focuses on measuring your cannabinoid levels – things like THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids. It tells you how strong your product is. Full panel testing takes it several steps further by including potency plus a comprehensive safety sweep: pesticides, heavy metals, microbial nasties, mycotoxins, residual solvents, and foreign matter. In most states, you'll need the full panel to stay compliant and get your products on shelves.

Do I need to schedule an appointment to drop off samples?

While we're happy to help walk-ins at most locations, we really recommend scheduling an appointment ahead of time. It just makes everything smoother – you won't have to wait, and we can make sure everything's handled properly from the get-go. You can book a time slot right through our website or just give your nearest Kaycha Labs location a call.

What documentation do I need to submit with my samples?

You'll need to bring a few things: a completed chain of custody form, your valid state license info (if your state requires it), detailed product information including batch or lot numbers, and any relevant harvest or production dates. Don't stress if you're not sure about the paperwork – our team is here to help you get everything sorted when you drop off your samples.

How much sample material is required for testing?

It depends on what you're testing and which tests you need. Generally speaking, we need about 2-5 grams for flower or concentrate, 5-10 grams for edibles, and 10-15ml for liquids or tinctures. Want to know exactly what you need for your specific situation? Just reach out to your local lab and we'll give you the details.

What states does Kaycha Labs operate in?

We're growing fast! Right now, you'll find us in Colorado, Florida, Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, and Nevada. And we're not stopping there – we have plans to expand into more states soon. Check out our Locations page to find the facility nearest you with all the contact info you need.

Is Kaycha Labs accredited?

Absolutely! We maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation along with state-specific accreditations wherever they're required. Each facility has its own accreditations based on what that state needs. For example, our Colorado lab is accredited by A2LA, while our other locations have the appropriate accreditations for their regulatory jurisdictions. We take our credentials seriously because your compliance depends on it.

What happens if my product fails testing?

Nobody likes to hear their product failed, but when it happens, we give you detailed results showing exactly which parameters didn't meet the mark. From there, you'll need to work with your state regulatory authority to figure out your next steps. Depending on what failed and your state's rules, you might be able to reprocess the product, you might need to run additional tests, or in some cases, the product may need to be destroyed. We're here to help you understand the results and what they mean.

Can I access my test results online?

Yep! All your test results live in our secure online portal. When you submit your first sample, you'll get login credentials. From there, you can view, download, and print your detailed Certificates of Analysis (COAs) anytime you need them. It makes sharing results with regulators or customers super easy.

What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?

A COA is basically your product's official report card from the lab. It spells out all your test results in detail – cannabinoid potency, safety test results, the methods we used for testing, our accreditation info, and your batch identification. In most states, you legally need a COA to sell your cannabis products, and many consumers want to see them too. It's proof that your product is what you say it is and that it's safe.

Does Kaycha Labs offer testing for hemp and CBD products?

We sure do! Hemp and CBD products are a big part of what we test. This includes potency testing to verify your CBD levels and make sure THC stays below that crucial 0.3% threshold for legal compliance. We also offer full panel safety testing so you can confidently say your products are clean and safe.

What are terpenes and why are they tested?

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its distinctive smells and flavors – think piney, citrusy, earthy, skunky. But they're not just about smell and taste; they also influence the effects people experience. Testing for terpenes helps you differentiate your products, maintain quality control, and give consumers the information they need to find products they'll love. Plus, some states actually require terpene testing for compliance.

How does Kaycha Labs ensure accurate and reliable results?

We're kind of obsessive about accuracy, honestly. Everything we do follows ISO/IEC 17025 accredited processes. We regularly calibrate our equipment, participate in proficiency testing programs, use certified reference materials, employ highly trained analytical chemists, and maintain comprehensive quality control measures at every step. We also use validated testing methods that have been proven to work. And before any result gets released to you, it goes through multiple review stages. We know you're counting on our data to make important decisions, so we don't take shortcuts.
